Medicare Enrollment Dates for upcoming MEDICARE “ANNUAL ELECTION PERIOD”- (AEP)
The Medicare enrollment dates for this coming year are Oct 15th through December 7th. This is known as AEP or annual election period. During the AEP you will be able to evaluate whether the plan you have chosen for the current year continues to be the best plan for you. If it is not, you can change to another plan that better meets your needs. You will need to change plans between the dates of October 15th through December 7th. Your newly chosen plan will not be effective until Jan.01. You can change plans multiple times during this period, The last application that you submit is your plan choice for the upcoming year. Many Medicare Beneficiaries don’t realize that even with serious health conditions you are able to change plans and be fully covered
During this time you can evaluate changing from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Medicare Supplements plan, also known as Medicare Medigap plans. Under most circumstances Medicare Supplement plans require that you qualify for the plan and will require you to be underwritten i.e. there are medical questions to be answered on the application, unless you have a qualifying event that exempts you from underwriting or if you are turning 65.
MEDICARE ADVANTAGE OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD
Open enrollment dates are January 1 thru March 31. During this time period you can change from one Medicare advantage plan to another Medicare Advantage plan. The effective date for an MA OEP election is the first day of the month following receipt of the enrollment request. Per CMS rules, only one change is allowed.
