HELP PROGRAMS

Are you finding it difficult to pay for your prescription drugs? Do you need some assistance? If you answered yes to both questions, then you should be aware that a number of options are available to you. It is important that you make a conscious effort to see if you can obtain help paying for the medications you need. Here are some ways you can get assistance:

1. Contact Medicare by calling 1-800-MEDICARE.

You will be asked if the reason for your call is to get help with prescription medicines. Follow the voice instructions and once a Medicare agent is available to speak with you, tell him or her that you wish to know if you meet the requirements for the Low-Income subsidy (LSI) program. To get help from this program, some financial requirements are involved, however many Medicare recipients have greatly benefited from this program.

If you prefer, you can go to www.medicare.gov and apply directly from there.

2. Partnership for Prescription help also offers help to people who need assistance in paying for their medications. To reach them on the internet, you should visit www.pparx.org. You can also reach them by phone 1-888-477-2669.

3. If you happen to be a veteran of the military, and you were discharged honorably, you may be eligible for help with paying for the medications you need. You can go to www.va.gov or call 1-800-823-1000 to find out.
