Medicare – what’s not covered by Part A & Part B? Read on to learn more.

Medicare doesn’t cover everything. If you need certain services that Medicare doesn’t cover, you’ll have to pay for them yourself unless you have other insurance or you’re in a Medicare health plan that covers these services. Columbia River Insurance Services can help you determine what additional coverage you need, and provide cost options. Our Medicare agents in Vancouver, WA are very experienced with Medicare and can assist you with all of your questions.

Even if Medicare covers a service or item, you generally have to pay your deductible, coinsurance, and copayments. Some of the items and services that Medicare doesn’t cover includes:

  • Long-term care (also called custodial care)
  • Transportation costs
  • Routine dental or eye care
  • Assisted Living
  • Elective cosmetic surgery
  • Acupuncture
  • Dentures
  • Personal care (Dressing, cleaning etc)
  • Life insurance
  • Cosmetic surgery
  • Hearing aids and exams for fitting them
  • Homemaker services
  • Routine foot care

Of course, there are some exceptions to these exclusions, especially if you are enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan. In addition, depending on the Medicare coverage you select, all of these items may have certain conditions where we can find coverage. For example, if you need cosmetic surgery to fix an existing medical condition, that may be covered.
